March 16, 2018

Dear Team TJ!

A HUGE thank you for weathering the storm this week!  I appreciate your patience and flexibility with so many days of rainy days.  It was great to see the kiddos out playing in the sun today!  Thank you for your attention to your SMART goals this past 6 weeks.  Please be prepared to share the progress towards the goal at our March 21st staff meeting.  We then will move forward with our next SMART goal cycle after Spring Break.  When reviewing assessment data, whether grade-level assessments, district benchmarks or iReady please create a targeted SMART based on data points.  I encourage you to explore Math as a target area.  When creating the SMART goal please use the  SMART Goal Worksheet attached and place a copy in my box.  Please copy the form prior to completing or printing; to access the form CLICK HERE.  I am looking forward to hearing about your student's growth.

On another note, I am wondering how are we putting nonfiction text in the hands of our students, that is not highlighted in Benchmark?  How are we exposing students to multiple genres across curricular areas?  Are we making the text available to them so that nonfiction is part of our independent reading time?  Are exposing them to opportunities to read and learn in different ways?  Are our students exposed to nonfiction read alouds?  Are we exposing them to biographies, text about science or history?  The question is there a presence of non-fiction in your classroomlibrariess, in your read alouds and in your daily instruction?

We are moving forward with the preparation for the CAASPP.  I had requested last week that we complete a headphone inventory in order to ensure that we have what we to meet the needs of our students.  I am assuming that we do not have a need for them because you have enough headphones in your classroom in addition need to the headphones/earplugs that students bring from home.  If you are in need of headphones to administer the assessment  please complete the form below to complete the Headphone inventory: HeadPhone Inventory

Your feedback about the testing schedule was taken into consideration and we have also followed the District's recommendations.  Please review the schedule here:

STRESS TEST -

We will be completing our stress test on March 22, 2018.  The stress test calls for grades 3rd and 5th to participate, yet our fifth-grade team will be off campus participating in District PD.  So we will be conducting the stress test with our 3rd and 4th grades.

Please see the information below for procedures and information about the stress test:

Similar to prior years, we have scheduled a CAASPP stress test on the network for Thursday, March 22nd from 9:30 to 10:30 AM.

What this means for you..

Elementary: 3rd and 5th grades to complete the practice test. If you have more devices than students enrolled, please feel free to include additional grade levels so we can get an accurate read of all devices connected and trying to test.

The most recent CAASPP secure browser should now be installed on all lab, classrooms, and Chromebooks.

Please click here for step-by-step quick reference guides on how to login and start the CAASPP practice test from both a Chrome, and click here for step-by-step quick reference guides on how to login and start the CAASPP practice test from lab and classroom Apple computers.

We will be using chrome books and the lab to conduct the stress test to ensure that we have enough devices needed to support testing.

I would like to meet for 10 minutes during PLC on Monday, March 19 to discuss chrome carts and devices needed to complete the stress test.

Please mark your calendars for the CASSPP training.  We will be conducting that training on April 9th during PLC.
