January 28-Feb. 1, 2018

It is hard to believe that this is the last week of January!  It sure has FLOWN by.  As I visit classrooms it is exciting to see the rigor and the FUN!  I would like to take a moment to highlight the work of our Kinder Team and their students.  The team took the PLUNG into Writer's Workshop and the writing cycle. They embarked on a six week unit of study and coaching cycle, where they pushed themselves professionally and went beyond their comfort zone.  They engaged in collaborative conversations that stretched their thinking and they shared that they have a new view of Writer's Workshop and it's power.

They embraced a unit of study, Personal Narrative and RAN with it! In the beginning, the team struggled..yet they persevered and so did their kiddos!  Our Kinder Stars generated seed ideas, drew and labeled their stories, wrote about their illustrations, REVISED and PUBLISHED a final draft and they celebrated!  If you were able to stop by and visit the Kinder classrooms on Friday, I am sure you were amazed by the writing they did.  Our stars wrote across pages and were so very proud of their work!
Students celebrating each other's writing!

Excited and proud to share!
This was a solid reminder to me of the power of trying new things, being open to new practices and being open to living at the edge of your comfort zone!  When we try new things and making learning fun and engaging for our students we also make our jobs what it should be...something we LOVE!

Thank you to you all for taking the risks and making learning fun for our Stars!

To another amazing week at TJ!

Kirsten

PLC MONDAYS

PLC Mondays are intended to have a positive impact on student preformance and your own professional growth.  PLCs should be DATA driven.  On January 18, 2019 we sent home Progress Reports to our families and this is a perfect time to create SMART goals.  I am aware that the iReady Window is not open, but there are other assessments and progress monitoring that should also be guiding our work.  Please use data to support your work and complete your grade level's SMART Goal.  Please make a copy of the SMART Goal below and share it with me when you have completed it.  The goals are due 2/4/2019.
