A message from Kid Superintendent
And that's a WRAP! Week three is in the books. You are amazing. The feedback that I am getting from families is very positive and your thoughtful planning and community building in the last few weeks is clearly evident in your classroom environments.
As we move forward with our new schedule after Labor Day, I wanted to take a moment to provide some clarification on our questions. SB98 requires the following instructional minutes:
180 for TK and K
240 for grades 1-5
Our schedule
8:45- 10:30 - Instruction - 105 minutes
10:30-10:45 - Recess
10:45-11:45 - Instruction - 60 Minutes
11:45-12:45 - Lunch
12:45 - 1:45 Instructional 60 Minutes
Our PLC Monday minutes for grades 1-5 add up to 225 minutes. Instructional minutes include LIVE instruction and independent work. The shorter day is to support collaboration, planning, and less teacher/student screen time. We do need to ensure that we are providing 240 minutes of instruction for the day, which means that there is something planned for the afternoon to account for the minutes still needed. While the live instruction dismissal time will be earlier, students should complete assigned independent work before the next school day. Also, with parent permission, some specialized services may be provided after the live instruction dismissal time as needed.
This could include but not limited too:
Science video Otus lesson with a question to answer
Think Central activities
iReady Lessons
Read and respond
Sight Word practice
...you know what your kiddos need.
The new RSP schedule and the revised prep schedule has been created so that you can create your schedules around them. We have done our best to create consistent times for preps and for RSP support to limit log in issues and to support families at home.
Please your revised schedules in this shared drive by Tuesday. Viola will need your schedules to create her new schedule.
Please refer to the RCSD Educators Blog for more information about Otus, Zoom ELD instruction, and much more.
The Thomas Jefferson Family Blog has been updated too;
- Kirsten
Network and Connectivity Update.
Chris and Eric were out today and they have upgraded our AP network. They are also actively looking at our network as well as pulling reports to pinpoint the issue. It seems that it may be leaning to a ZOOM problem. They also let me know that a monitoring device that can provide more detailed data is back online and they will look at that too. They are working on it.
Library Check-out for Students:
We will begin checking books out to students through the use of a google request form. Keri will select books for students based on their requests. Please forward this information to your families:
TJ Stars can receive some library books with their instructional materials on this upcoming deployment day. Your child will receive 2 library books based on the answers to the questions below. They will have fun being surprised by what is chosen for them! Your child can return their books in the bin outside the front office during normal school hours within 3 weeks of the next deployment date. Requests are due by September 1, 2020, at 9:00 am.
Keri and I will ensure that the mooks are placed with your student's materials in the MPR. This will also be shared in the school blog.
