Weekly Update 9/19/2016



Thank you so much for you perseverance and growth over the past few weeks as we take on the new Benchmark adoption.  It was such a pleasure to join you as a learner at the professional development.  I am so grateful to work with such reflective a passionate educators.  "The Power of 'YET" is a so fitting in our work this year.  We are not there..YET.  We may not have PBIS fully in place...YET. We may not have all the components of Benchmark in place...YET.  We will get there with a clear focus and a plan.  We are on the road to new "YETS."

Dance-a-thon Kick-off Assembly

The Dance-a-thon will be held on October 14, 2016.  The PTC will be hosting a kick-of assembly on Thursday, September 22, 2016.  There will be two assemblies; Grades K-2 will be held at 9:00 am and Grades 3-5 will be held at 9:30am.  Both assemblies will be held in the MPR.

Lunch Schedule

We will be moving the first lunch back 10 minutes to better support the supervision of students in the MPR and the play grounds.  I appreciate your flexibility and support of this change.  We will be looking at the schedules at the end of the year to ensure that all grade levels' needs are being met.  Please see the schedule below for your lunch times and student pick up times, please be on time in picking up your students.  The schedule of very tight and our Meal Duty Supervisors cannot be at two places at once to supervise kids.

MDS that is on the yard will gather the students on the playground five minutes before the end of the playground time and one MDS will escort the classes to the MPR line up area. The second MDS will remain on the playground in use to meet the classes as they are dismissed to lunch recess.  After escorting the classes to the line up area the MDS will return to the playground.  One MPR MDS will meet the classes to supervise the entrance into the MPR.

Fire Drill

There will be a fire drill on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 1:20 pm.  Please take time to review the expectations of a fire drill with your students and teach them how to be an active part of the drill.  The expectations and procedures for the drill are below:

Fire/Evacuation Drill Instructions
1.    When the fire drill sounds:
·      Grab clipboard and put on orange safety vest. (clipboard should
have a school map, current class roster, red & Green card)
·      Evacuate the classroom and take all students to designated area on the back playground
·      Teacher is last to exit the classroom
·      Close door and leave UNLOCKED
2.   Take roll call – Students line up in single line.
3.   Accountability:
·      Hold up the GREEN card in the front of your line if you have
everyone accounted for.
·      Hold up the RED card in the front of your line if you have
missing students or a problem.  (a student in speech, resource, restroom,
 library, etc., is considered a missing student until we have located the student
and they have been returned to your line at which time the card would then be
turned to green)
4.   Wait for the all clear VERBAL confirmation and return to class.

5.   If your class is in PE, they will be taken to the designated area.  Please meet your class at your line.

PBIS
Thank you for your interest in PBIS.  The following team members will be attending the PBIS training on September 29, 2016.  Madeline, Polly, Kelly, Kimber, Dara and Margaret.  If you are interested in being a part of our our planning team please feel free to join us at our first official PBIS meeting on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 7:45 am in the staff room.

Now that we have concluded the assessments, we should be using our PLC time to discuss groupings and RIT workshop time.  If you need support in creating groups based on your data please do not hesitate to ask.  Please DO NOT turn enable instruction for your students at this time.  I am researching if TJ purchased site license for instruction at this time.  I should have an answer in the next day.

Please take time to review the assessments that you have given and the data that they provided.  Please send me a summary email of what was discussed and the next steps that collaboration provided.
