October 17, 2016

For this week’s walk through we will focus on structured academic conversations.
How often are you having students speak with each other using academic language through out the day?

Guided Reading When looking at the benchmark materials that support small group guided reading, it is important that we see the lesson planning guides as just that a guide.  It is not a script.  Please use the given text and use it to meet the needs of your students.  These resources do not replace teacher judgement and quality first instruction. We need to be responsive to our students needs and teach them the skills they need to be readers.  Please take a moment to read the article below; we will be reflecting in it on our Wednesday staff meeting.

When planning a guided reading lesson, the following documents might come in handy.  The first are guided reading lesson planning,  by level ,  templates:

The second is a leveled conference form.  This form highlights reading behaviors by level that will make conferring a bit easier.  You can print off the levels you need, by groups and it can assist with conferring and informal assessment.

Last but not least is a tool which could come in handy when planning, guided reading lessons.  This notes some possible teaching points, by level that are in line with leveled reading behaviors.T

Observations:

Many of you may have received an email from me noting my notes during walk throughs.
Please know that when I am walking classrooms, I am there to learn from you and your students.  The questions that I pose are purely for reflection and to impact practice.  I am so very grateful that I am welcomed into your classrooms and this is my FAVORITE part of my day!
If you have questions about by notes, please see me.  I LOVE to talk teaching practice!
