Hello Team TJ,
Here we are smack dab in the middle of October...the second longest stretch of teaching with out a break or three day weekend. We have been working hard to establish classroom routines, create meaningful relationships and understand our students as a whole; socially and academically...AND we are tired! I get it! The progress reports have been issued and now we understand that the HARD work needs to happen...and we are tired!
We are all working hard; with KIDS in mind! I ask you...how are you making each day GREAT for you and for your students? What are you doing to make the work of a teacher FUN? I understand that we have a HUGE responsibility of educating our students and that is a HUGE burden to bear...but each day at TJ should be a day of JOY for us all. I ask you...what changes in your practice are you making to make each day a great day for you and your students? What tweaks are you making in the status quo to create change in your day? I understand that change is hard but it can be refreshing! I have to say...when I rearrange the furniture in my house...it brings a new attitude. When I bring fresh flowers home it brightens my day...these simple changes can bring a change on how we view the moment. The question is what changes are you making to reframe your thinking, your practice and how are you bringing EXCITEMENT to each day for yourself and your students?
As we embrace the next few weeks perhaps we could all:
• Re-ground yourself in the “why”…such as, why am I doing this?” Take some time to reflect and remember what it was that made you want to be a teacher. Write these reasons down or talk about them and recall the beginning of your teaching experience. Doing so will evoke those early days and hopefully positive feelings too!
• Celebrate the successes…and don’t merely focus on how far off you are from accomplishing future goals. Summon up moments when you’ve felt energized in your work and think about those students of yours where your relationship has enhanced. Set your sights on the small but positive changes that have occurred.
• Optimize your time…by examining how you’re spending it. By doing so, you may discover that some activities are worth the time and effort. You may realize some classroom routines are unproductive. It may help to merely revise your routine.
- Take a risk...try on something new that you have not done before..think outside the box...shake things up to create a new norm!
The time we take to reflect in our practice and celebrate the reasons "WHY" we do what we do can do wonders to this time of year! Ask yourself...have I engaged my inner "PIRATE"?
We are almost there...Thanksgiving Break...in the mean time; we GOT THIS!
